As a government veterinary officer, private practitioner and author of numerous books he has made an outstanding contribution to veterinary science. During a period of 19 years as Director of the University of Sydney Post Graduate Committee in Veterinary Science he pioneered postgraduate veterinary education in Australia through case contributions and notes, major refresher courses and a variety of publications. This has resulted in the Post Graduate Committee and its publications receiving international recognition. Tom has inspired me and many others, not only to achieve the maximum that they were capable of, but also to serve our profession. 'Whosoever wants to be great among you must be my servant' (Matthew 20:26) is a statement from Jesus to his disciples.
